11 Films to See in May
May marks the official start of the summer movie season. While that means the usual assortment of superhero films (including, this week, the rather promising Captain America: Civil War), this May will also bring an atypically strong crop of indie and foreign releases, including new films from Whit Stillman, Jacques Audiard, Yorgos Lanthimos, Rebecca Miller, and more.
After co-writing and directing Iron Man 3, Shane Black has returned with a film that more closely resembles his first directorial effort, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Set in 1970s Los Angeles, The Nice Guys follows private eye Holland March (Ryan Gosling) and enforcer Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) as they reluctantly work together to solve the case of a missing girl and the seemingly unrelated death of a porn star. Hopefully, this is another R-rated buddy action-comedy success for Black, whose first produced screenplay was 1987’s Lethal Weapon.
