11 Films to See in May
May marks the official start of the summer movie season. While that means the usual assortment of superhero films (including, this week, the rather promising Captain America: Civil War), this May will also bring an atypically strong crop of indie and foreign releases, including new films from Whit Stillman, Jacques Audiard, Yorgos Lanthimos, Rebecca Miller, and more.
In this thriller that unfolds in real time, George Clooney stars as Lee Gates, a Jim Cramer-esque financial cable host who is taken hostage on live TV by an angry investor played by Jack O’Connell (Starred Up). Helping to defuse the situation and uncover the truth behind the crash of a high-tech stock is Gates’ producer (Julia Roberts). Also starring Caitriona Balfe, Dominic West, Giancarlo Esposito, and Greta Lee, this is Jodie Foster’s fourth film in the director’s chair following The Beaver, Home for the Holidays and Little Man Tate.
