11 Films to See in May
May marks the official start of the summer movie season. While that means the usual assortment of superhero films (including, this week, the rather promising Captain America: Civil War), this May will also bring an atypically strong crop of indie and foreign releases, including new films from Whit Stillman, Jacques Audiard, Yorgos Lanthimos, Rebecca Miller, and more.
Following the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer’s latest X-Men movie introduces a new group of young mutants to battle the first mutant, the powerful Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac), and his four horsemen: Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Psylocke (Olivia Munn) and Angel (Ben Hardy).
James McAvoy’s Charles Xavier/Professor X, Jennifer Lawrence’s Raven/Mystique and Hank McCoy/Beast (Nicholas Hoult) recruit and train Quicksilver (Evan Peters), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Havok (Lucas Till) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) to save the world from total destruction. They also get some help from Hugh Jackman, appearing in his penultimate film as Wolverine.
