10 Films to See in March
The arrival of spring should bring with it some better (or at least bigger) options at the cineplex, including a promising new Disney animated film, a semi-sequel to Cloverfield, and a big question mark in Batman v Superman. But this month's big effects-driven disaster pic comes not from Hollywood, but from Norway. Art houses will also be graced with new films from noted directors Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Terrence Malick, Jeff Nichols, and Arnaud Desplechin.
This classic Hollywood disaster picture just happens to be Norwegian. The village of Geiranger, one of Norway’s major tourist draws, is constantly threatened by the possibility that nearby mountain Åkerneset could erode into the fjord and cause a tsunami. Geologist Kristian (Kristoffer Joner) has monitored the town’s warning centers for years, but on the day he plans to drive his family to their new life in the city, Kristian senses something isn't right. The film earned solid reviews when it showed in Toronto last year, and director Roar Uthaug’s skill with the film’s suspenseful action scenes has earned him the job of rebooting the Tomb Raider franchise.
