10 Films to See in March
The arrival of spring should bring with it some better (or at least bigger) options at the cineplex, including a promising new Disney animated film, a semi-sequel to Cloverfield, and a big question mark in Batman v Superman. But this month's big effects-driven disaster pic comes not from Hollywood, but from Norway. Art houses will also be graced with new films from noted directors Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Terrence Malick, Jeff Nichols, and Arnaud Desplechin.
With his latest, director Arnaud Desplechin (A Christmas Tale and Kings & Queen) returns to the story of Paul Dédalus (Matheiu Amalric) that he began in 1996 with My Sex Life… or How I Got Into an Argument. About to return to Paris, Dédalus reflects on his childhood relationships with his mother, his father, and, most of all, the love of his life, Esther. Quentin Dolmaire, making his screen debut, plays the young Dédalus in a film The New York Times’s Manohla Dargis called “transporting” with a “superb, devastating” performance by newcomer Lou Roy-Lecollinet as Esther.
