10 Films to See in March
The arrival of spring should bring with it some better (or at least bigger) options at the cineplex, including a promising new Disney animated film, a semi-sequel to Cloverfield, and a big question mark in Batman v Superman. But this month's big effects-driven disaster pic comes not from Hollywood, but from Norway. Art houses will also be graced with new films from noted directors Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Terrence Malick, Jeff Nichols, and Arnaud Desplechin.
The fourth film from writer-director Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Mud) debuted to good reviews in Berlin last month. Described by the director as a “sci-fi chase film” inspired by Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., and Starman, the film follows a father (Michael Shannon) who hopes to uncover the truth behind his young son’s (Jaeden Lieberher) special powers as they flee religious extremists (led by Sam Shepard) and are pursued by the Federal Government (in the form of Adam Driver).
