10 Films to See in March
The arrival of spring should bring with it some better (or at least bigger) options at the cineplex, including a promising new Disney animated film, a semi-sequel to Cloverfield, and a big question mark in Batman v Superman. But this month's big effects-driven disaster pic comes not from Hollywood, but from Norway. Art houses will also be graced with new films from noted directors Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Terrence Malick, Jeff Nichols, and Arnaud Desplechin.
Inspired by the true story of American socialite Florence Foster Jenkins (who will have her own biopic released later this year, starring Meryl Streep and directed by Stephen Frears), writer-director Xavier Giannoli’s latest moves the story to France, where Marguerite Dumont (Catherine Frot) throws lavish parties at her castle, where she also sings passionately but completely out of tune (unbeknownst to her). When a rave review of her latest performance gives her the courage required to further pursue her dream, she begins to prepare for her first public recital. Frot won Best Actress at this year’s César Awards for her performance.
