10 Films to See in March
The arrival of spring should bring with it some better (or at least bigger) options at the cineplex, including a promising new Disney animated film, a semi-sequel to Cloverfield, and a big question mark in Batman v Superman. But this month's big effects-driven disaster pic comes not from Hollywood, but from Norway. Art houses will also be graced with new films from noted directors Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Terrence Malick, Jeff Nichols, and Arnaud Desplechin.
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at SXSW last year, this debut feature from writer-director-actor-editor Trey Edward Shults stars his own aunt, Krisha Fairchild, at the titular character, who shows up at her sister’s house on Thanksgiving morning and attempts to reconcile with her relatives, resulting in an emotionally taxing day for everyone. One of the best-reviewed films of the year so far, Krisha just won the John Cassavetes Award (given to a feature made for under $500,000) at the Independent Spirit Awards.
