Horror film debuts June 4 on HBO Max
Pandemic lockdowns may be easing, but Warner Bros. doesn't appear to be in any hurry to reverse its new policy of streaming its new theatrical releases on HBO Max on day one. Up next is the third Conjuring film (and eighth in the shared universe), which was originally scheduled for a 2020 release. Stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return for director Michael Chaves, who is new to The Conjuring but previously directed the 2019 spinoff The Curse of La Llorona. The story here is loosely based on a real-life 1981 Connecticut murder trial in which the accused killer, Arne Cheyenne Johnson (played here by Ruairi O'Connor), mounted a novel defense by claiming he was possessed by a demon.
