14 Films to See in June
June will bring more than just the usual assortment of explosions and CGI effects to the cineplex. There are promising new films from Edgar Wright, Sofia Coppola, and Bong Joon-ho, an unusually large number of well-reviewed indie comedies, and a terrific new horror film. There's also something even more rare: a good DC Comics film. Find details on these and all of June's most notable releases below.
Writer-director Sofia Coppola’s first feature since 2013’s The Bling Ring won her the Best Director prize at Cannes a few days ago. It was the first victory by a woman in the category since Yuliya Solntseva in 1961 for The Chronicle of Flaming Years.
A remake of Don Siegel’s 1971 film (based on Thomas Cullinan’s novel) that starred Clint Eastwood as an injured Union soldier who finds refuge and then trouble at a girls boarding school in Louisiana, Coppola’s version stars Colin Farrell as the soldier and Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning as not to be underestimated objects of his desire. The film opens in a few theaters on June 23rd before expanding to more screens on June 30th.
