14 Films to See in June
June will bring more than just the usual assortment of explosions and CGI effects to the cineplex. There are promising new films from Edgar Wright, Sofia Coppola, and Bong Joon-ho, an unusually large number of well-reviewed indie comedies, and a terrific new horror film. There's also something even more rare: a good DC Comics film. Find details on these and all of June's most notable releases below.
Looking for challenging independent cinema this month? This feature from writer-director João Pedro Rodrigues (The Last Time I Saw Macao) might be the ticket. Fernando (Paul Hamy) is an ornithologist, a person who studies birds. He’s looking for black storks in a nature reserve in northern Portugal when his kayak gets caught in the rapids. Found by a pair of Chinese women who decide to tie him up, Fernando’s bizarre and challenging journey is only just beginning as the director puts a queer twist on the story of Saint Anthony of Padua.
