11 Films to See in June
With summer movie season in full swing, you can expect multiple sequels (with Pixar's Finding Dory the most notable) in June. But you'll also find a surprising number of original and unconventional titles in theaters, including new films from Nicolas Winding Refn, Todd Solondz, Noah Baumbach, Taika Waititi, and more.
After tackling the serial killer/police procedural (The Chaser) and the revenge thriller/gangster film (The Yellow Sea), Korean director Na Hong-jin dives headfirst into mystery/horror with his latest, the story of an investigator’s search for the truth behind the unusual deaths in a quiet, rural village. Suspicion falls on a Japanese stranger, but that’s just the beginning of this tense, violent, and bleak film. Yes, it’s long (156 minutes), as is Na’s inclination, but critics say it’s worth the sit.
