Comedy series debuts July 15 on HBO
Little noticed when it first debuted but quickly the recipient of massive critical acclaim, Nathan Fielder's Comedy Central series Nathan for You is one of the most remarkable comedy shows of the past decade (if not all time). After it ended its four-season run (with an all-time great finale) in 2017, Fielder went on to produce another acclaimed, sui generis TV experiment: HBO's How to With John Wilson. This month, he returns with his own new six-episode HBO series—one that should appeal to fans of both of those prior shows.
Much like Nathan for You, The Rehearsal finds Fielder on screen working with ordinary people to improve their lives. But while the subjects in that prior show were entrepreneurs, the new series goes beyond business; instead, Fielder utilizes a team of actors and crewpeople to help people rehearse an upcoming major life moment by building a simulation of reality. It's like something out of a Charlie Kaufman movie—or, indeed, a Nathan Fielder TV series.
