Animated movie debuts July 8 on Netflix
Is this Netflix's best animated film to date? It's still early, but thanks to excellent reviews out of the film's premiere at the recent Annecy International Animation Film Festival, The Sea Beast currently ranks ahead of I Lost My Body and The Mitchells vs. The Machines (two excellent recent examples). Directed and co-written by Disney veteran Chris Williams (Big Hero 6, Bolt), The Sea Beast is an original action-fantasy-adventure centering on Jacob Holland, a monster hunter who patrols the seas, and Maisie Brumble, a young stowaway on his ship who becomes his unexpected ally. It looks like a fun one: Critics have been praising the film's inventiveness, energy, and visuals, and suggest that it blows Disney's recent Lightyear out of the water (pun intended). The voice cast is led by Karl Urban, Jared Harris, Zaris-Angel Hator, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. If you can't wait until July 8, you may be able to catch the film in select theaters right now.
