Amid the usual summer blockbusters—including a return to the Bourne franchise for Matt Damon and a family adventure from Steven Spielberg—the month ahead will also feature intriguing smaller films that have already made an impression on the festival circuit over the past year. We've picked out a handful of July's best bets below—as well as one major wildcard.
Comedian Mike Birbiglia's follow-up to his 2012 debut feature Sleepwalk with Me earned great reviews when it premiered at SXSW earlier this year. After looking at the life of a stand-up comic in his first film, Birbiglia shifts his focus to a popular New York City improv troupe where the success of one member impacts the rest of the group in different ways. The strong ensemble includes Birbiglia, Keegan-Michael Key, Gillian Jacobs, Chris Gethard, Tami Sagher, and Kate Micucci
