If you’ve seen the trailer for this sci-fi thriller/comedy from Housebound director Gerard Johnstone you understand why it’s on the list. Based on a story by James Wan and Akela Cooper, and written by Cooper (Malignant), the film stars Allison Williams as Gemma, a roboticist whose latest creation, M3GAN, is a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s ultimate companion. But what if M3GAN takes her objectives a little too seriously? Gemma becomes aware of the consequences when she pairs her with her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw). Can M3GAN supplant Chucky at the top of the killer doll ladder? With that dance, we wouldn’t bet against her.
