New series debuts January 13 on HBO Max
This eight-episode series spinoff from James Gunn's recent film The Suicide Squad finds John Cena reprising his role as the title character. Also returning from the film is Gunn himself, who is writing the entire series and directing multiple episodes (including the opener), as well as Steve Agee, who returns to play John Economos, and Jennifer Holland (once again playing Emilia Harcourt). New cast members include Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Chukwudi Iwuji, Freddie Stroma, and Chris Conrad, while directors aside from Gunn include Jody Hill, Brad Anderson, and Rosemary Rodriguez. HBO Max is billing the series as an action-adventure-comedy that will reveal the origins of Cena's character. Three episodes stream on day one, followed by single episodes over the next five weeks.
