10 Films to See in February
While January (as is the norm) had little of quality to offer moviegoers other than holdovers from the previous year, February looks a lot more promising. This month will see the arrival of a new comedy from the Coen brothers, a thriller from John Hillcoat, several foreign dramas that have already collected raves from reviewers, and what could be 2016's best horror film.
Director John Hillcoat (The Proposition, The Road, Lawless) has assembled an impressive cast (Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Kate Winslet, Aaron Paul, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Anthony Mackie, Norman Reedus, Gal Gadot, Teresa Palmer, Clifton Collins, Jr.) for this cops as robbers saga. The title refers to a “999” or “officer down” call, a diversion the crew of cops uses to pull off the impossible heist they’ve been blackmailed into doing by the Russian mob (headed by Winslet in a very different role than the one she was recently nominated for in Steve Jobs).
