10 Films to See in February
While January (as is the norm) had little of quality to offer moviegoers other than holdovers from the previous year, February looks a lot more promising. This month will see the arrival of a new comedy from the Coen brothers, a thriller from John Hillcoat, several foreign dramas that have already collected raves from reviewers, and what could be 2016's best horror film.
At Sundance a year ago, writer-director Robert Eggers won the U.S. Dramatic Competition Directing Award for this debut feature about a Puritan family in 1630 New England who leave their community to start their own farm on the edge of a forest. When their crops fail to grow and their infant child disappears, the family members turn on each other and superstition takes hold. In their early reviews, critics especially took note of Anya Taylor-Joy’s performance as the oldest child and target of her family’s paranoia.
