2018 Fall TV Preview: 25 Notable Shows
In the gallery above, we preview the most notable new and returning television shows scheduled to debut between now and the end of 2018. Note that the new fall shows on the five broadcast networks will be profiled separately next week.
Debuts tbd on Syfy. Former author George R. R. Martin has a long history with science fiction in addition to fantasy, writing multiple sci-fi novels as well as scripts for TV shows ranging from Max Headroom to the '80s revival of The Twilight Zone. It is actually his 1980 sci-fi/horror novella—and subsequent 1987 feature film adaptation—that serves as the source for this new Syfy series, though Martin himself won't be directly involved (since he is still occupied with HBO's Game of Thrones).
Reportedly Syfy's most expensive show to date, Nightflyers follows the crew of, well, the Nightflyer, the most advanced spacecraft ever built, as it heads to the edge of our solar system near the end of our current century. What awaits them there is bloody, creepy, and horrific—but also much less campy than the 1987 movie. (Several writers who saw the first footage unveiled at Comic-Con compared it to The Shining.) The cast features Gretchen Mol, Eoin Macken, David Ajala, and Brian F. O'Byrne, and the series is being helmed (after a last-minute showrunner change) by TV newcomer Jeff Buhler, who also penned the adaptation.
Still without a firm premiere date other than "fall," the show will debut on Netflix outside of the United States (though it will eventually come to the streaming service here as well).
