2018 Fall TV Preview: 25 Notable Shows
In the gallery above, we preview the most notable new and returning television shows scheduled to debut between now and the end of 2018. Note that the new fall shows on the five broadcast networks will be profiled separately next week.
Debuts September 9 on Showtime. This half-hour dramedy (with an emphasis on the drama part) is the first TV show from quirky film/music video director Michel Gondry, and it reunites him with his Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind star Jim Carrey (himself returning to TV as a regular in a scripted, non-sketch TV series for the first time since 1984's The Duck Factory).
Carrey plays Mr. Pickles, the increasingly troubled host of a beloved children's television series that looks like a cross between Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and The Muppet Show. The terrific cast also includes Catherine Keener, Judy Greer, Frank Langella, and Justin Kirk. Gondry is a producer and directs multiple episodes of the series—you'll definitely notice his trademark quirk and craftwork—which was created by Weeds writer Dave Holstein. Early reviews warn that the show may not quite have a handle on tone, though there are certainly things to like about the series.
