2018 Fall TV Preview: 25 Notable Shows
In the gallery above, we preview the most notable new and returning television shows scheduled to debut between now and the end of 2018. Note that the new fall shows on the five broadcast networks will be profiled separately next week.
Debuts October 12 on DC Universe. It may seem like DC Comics already has a dedicated television outlet—commonly known as The CW—but on September 15 it will launch a more official one in the form of the new paid subscription streaming service DC Universe. And that means even more DC original shows.
Up first is Titans, which is based mostly on the 1980s era version of the DC Comics superhero team Teen Titans, consisting (among others) of Robin/Dick Grayson, Raven/Rachel Roth, Starfire/Koriand'r, and Beast Boy/Gar Logan. The cast is led by Brenton Thwaites, and producers include Akiva Goldsman and (who else) Greg Berlanti. Expect a darker, edgier, and more violent show than Berlanti's CW oeuvre. (At the very least, there will be swearing.) The 12 episodes will arrive weekly.
Will that be enough to merit a $7.99/month investment? Perhaps in time. In addition to featuring older shows and movies, plus digital comics, DC Universe will add several additional original series in early 2019, including Doom Patrol, Stargirl, and Swamp Thing (plus animated shows Harley Quinn and Young Justice: Outsiders). In addition, this fall will bring the daily pop culture news show DC Daily, hosted in part by Kevin Smith.
