The latest HBO drama series from David Simon (The Wire, Treme)—co-created with his frequent collaborator, novelist George Pelecanos—traces the rise of New York's porn industry during the late 1970s and early 1980s. The cast is led by James Franco (playing two characters based on real-life twins who were major players in the Times Square scene) and Maggie Gyllenhaal, while directors include Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad) and Franco. The first episode is already available to stream on HBO's various digital services. Critics have seen the whole eight-episode season, and it sounds like Simon is once again in top form.
