Which of These New Fall TV Shows Will Fail First?
If there is anything we can guarantee about the fall TV season, it's that at least one of the highly promoted network newcomers will fail to catch on with audiences and meet a premature end. Heck, it happens every year.
But which freshman series will be this year's This Is Us, and which will be its Conviction? Below, we have picked out some of the pros and cons facing each of the new broadcast series debuting between September and November
Pros: A brilliant but socially awkward doctor who works in a prestigious hospital and solves interesting cases while navigating conflicts with his coworkers? It worked for eight seasons on House, and this new medical procedural comes from the very same person, David Shore. The catch is that, here, the doctor is on the autism spectrum and not just a misanthrope. (He's also a surgeon.) The promising cast includes Freddie Highmore (Bates Motel) and Richard Schiff.
Cons: It may be a bit too much like House (and the many other similar shows) to grab viewers. ABC has been the first network to cancel a show in each of the last four years.
