Which of These New Fall TV Shows Will Fail First?
If there is anything we can guarantee about the fall TV season, it's that at least one of the highly promoted network newcomers will fail to catch on with audiences and meet a premature end. Heck, it happens every year.
But which freshman series will be this year's This Is Us, and which will be its Conviction? Below, we have picked out some of the pros and cons facing each of the new broadcast series debuting between September and November
Pros: It's a Marvel series (Fox's first), and, last time we checked, those are "in." More than that, it's an X-Men series, and even features that film franchise's Bryan Singer as director and producer. (The second episode enlists another film veteran, Len Wiseman, as director.) The series has a veteran showrunner in Matt Nix (Burn Notice), and a solid cast led by Amy Acker and Stephen Moyer. The show's focus on a family unit could even expand the audience beyond typical comic book fans.
Cons: It may be tied to the X-Men, but it won't necessarily have any characters that casual fans will recognize. Still, it seems like Fox's best chance for a hit this season, unless audiences suddenly grow weary of superhero shows, subsequent episodes can't match the high-quality effects of the pilot, or The Voice and Dancing With the Stars prove to be too unyielding in that Monday time slot.
