Which of These New Fall TV Shows Will Fail First?
If there is anything we can guarantee about the fall TV season, it's that at least one of the highly promoted network newcomers will fail to catch on with audiences and meet a premature end. Heck, it happens every year.
But which freshman series will be this year's This Is Us, and which will be its Conviction? Below, we have picked out some of the pros and cons facing each of the new broadcast series debuting between September and November
Pros: This military procedural about a Special Ops unit and the Defense Intelligence Agency promises action and shares a producer with Homeland. The pilot seems competently made and features a diverse cast.
Cons: The presence of three new generically titled military dramas this fall could cause confusion among audiences, especially since the shows are similar in concept and execution. (This one was originally called For God and Country, but NBC opted to make it less distinctive.) Critics found the pilot about as bland and generic as its title. Series creator Dean Georgaris has little TV experience nor much in his filmography that inspires confidence. Stars Mike Vogel and Anne Heche haven't had much luck with their recent network series.
