Author Douglas Adams had two beloved book series to his name: sci-fi classic The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and comedic detective stories centering on eccentric detective Dirk Gently, who encounters everything from time travel to Norse gods to alien ghosts. This second TV adaptation of Gently's adventures (following a brief version filmed for BBC4 beginning in 2010) comes from screenwriter Max Landis (American Ultra, Chronicle). Samuel Barnett (Penny Dreadful) stars as Gently, while Elijah Wood plays his assistant Todd in an eight-episode first season that follows a serialized story of an investigation into a millionaire's murder.
