We've picked out the most notable fall TV debuts (both new and returning shows) below, ordered by date. For more premiere dates and details on every upcoming show (including those not profiled here), visit our Fall TV Premiere Calendar.
While HBO is banking on Sarah Jessica Parker's proven star power to boost Divorce, that show's companion series this fall is a welcome example of the network taking a leap into new territory—and a potential best new show of the year candidate, in the early opinion of at least one critic. In development for three years, Insecure is the creation of actress/writer Issa Rae, who is best known for her web series Awkward Black Girl, along with Larry Wilmore, the former Comedy Central host who has had a long and successful career as a TV writer/producer (Bernie Mac, Black-ish). Rae heads the cast of a comedy series set in South Los Angeles that aims to explore "the black female experience in an unclichéd and authentic way." In fact, Rae appears to be just the second black woman (following Wanda Sykes over a decade ago) to create and star in a TV comedy series—ever.
