Which of These New Fall TV Shows Will Fail First?
It will happen. At some point this fall, one of the broadcast networks will be the first to pull the plug on one of its once-promising but now ratings-challenged new shows.
But predicting which show will be the first to go is tough. As we've seen in the past, the first-canceled program isn't necessarily the worst show of the fall—on occasion, it is even one of the best. But to help you get a feel for the prospects of this year's newcomers, we have identified some of the pros and cons of each of the 20 new broadcast series debuting this month and next.
Pros: With Scandal delayed until early next year due to star Kerry Washington's pregnancy, ABC presumably needs new episodes of something (rather than reruns) to air on Thursdays at 9p in the interim. This is indeed something. And perhaps the network's hopes that Shonda Rhimes fans won't change the channel in between Grey's Anatomy and HTGAWM will come true.
Cons: ABC has been the first network to pull the plug in each of the last four years, and if any of the network's newcomers looks DOA, it's this one. The previous network shows created by Josh Berman ended quickly. And who, exactly, is clamoring to see the story of the relationship between celebrity attorney Mark Geragos and Larry King Live producer Wendy Walker? Oh, and early reviews are flat-out terrible.
