Which of These New Fall TV Shows Will Fail First?
It will happen. At some point this fall, one of the broadcast networks will be the first to pull the plug on one of its once-promising but now ratings-challenged new shows.
But predicting which show will be the first to go is tough. As we've seen in the past, the first-canceled program isn't necessarily the worst show of the fall—on occasion, it is even one of the best. But to help you get a feel for the prospects of this year's newcomers, we have identified some of the pros and cons of each of the 20 new broadcast series debuting this month and next.
Pros: The series comes from some of the team behind Jane the Virgin (and, like that show, is based on a Spanish-language format). The network is only introducing two new shows this fall, so it seems unlikely that either would get a quick hook. And the CW's most recent quirky rom-com, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, managed to earn a renewal.
Cons: The CW's most recent quirky rom-com, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, has almost no audience. No Tomorrow is not necessarily a perfect fit with its lead-in, The Flash. A show where one character is convinced that the world is about to end may not be universally appealing, and star Joshua Sasse's previous series, Galavant, also had trouble attracting an audience. Critics appear to have mixed feelings about the premiere (whereas they loved the aforementioned Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin).
