Loving the Alien (1983-1988) by David Bowie
Out October 12 on Parlophone. The fourth in a series of chronological Bowie box sets compiling all of his recorded material, Alien comes from a period that is dismissed by many fans, though it produced several of the star's biggest hits (like "Let's Dance"). But the most unique aspect of this 11-CD or 15-LP collection is something brand new: a complete reworking of Bowie's 1987 album Never Let Me Down—an album described by the artist himself as his "nadir," though it's more the dated production rather than the songs that let him down—which retains Bowie's vocals but features almost 100% new instrumentation on many of the tracks.
