Release date: September 20 for Switch
Link's Awakening was a much-loved monochrome action-adventure released in 1993 for the original Game Boy, centering on Link's journey through Koholint Island (rather than Hyrule) and featuring Nintendo characters like Yoshi and Kirby (but not, oddly enough, Princess Zelda). A slightly updated remaster—in color!—did arrive for the Game Boy Color in 1998, but this new Switch remake is a considerable upgrade. The new Awakening keeps the 2D, top-down perspective of the original but marries it to brand-new HD graphics. The biggest addition is an all-new Dungeon Editor mode that lets you customize your own dungeon levels, which you can then complete in timed challenges for rewards.
