The Most-Anticipated Videogames Coming This Fall
Don't be too sad that summer's ending: It just means that the year's biggest videogames are about to start rolling out over the coming weeks. In the gallery above, we preview this fall's most-anticipated game releases headed to every console (and PC), from Red Dead Redemption 2 to a bunch of games that aren't Red Dead Redemption 2.
Out September 7 for PS4 (exclusive). The first Marvel game (indeed, the first licensed game of any kind) from Ratchet & Clank developer Insomniac Games is a PS4 exclusive and one of the most-anticipated releases of the fall. The single-player game takes place in a large, open-world New York, and you play as both Spider-Man and his 23-year-old, less spidery persona, Peter Parker, and you'll face off against classic Marvel villains including Mister Negative and the Kingpin in a new story. (The game does not take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.) At times, you will also be able to play as Mary Jane, who is an investigative journalist.
Combat looks similar to that in the Batman: Arkham game series, which appears to be an obvious touchstone for Spider-Man. Could Insomniac bring similar magic to a Marvel property? If the effusive reaction from the gaming press to Spider-Man's E3 unveiling this summer is any indication, the answer is yes. And the first DLC (The Heist, focusing on Felicia Hardy/Black Cat) is already planned for an October 23rd launch (with two more chapters, Turf Wars and Silver Lining, to follow in November and December).
