The Most-Anticipated Videogames Coming This Fall
Don't be too sad that summer's ending: It just means that the year's biggest videogames are about to start rolling out over the coming weeks. In the gallery above, we preview this fall's most-anticipated game releases headed to every console (and PC), from Red Dead Redemption 2 to a bunch of games that aren't Red Dead Redemption 2.
Out October 26 for PS4/XB1. Easily the single most anticipated release of the fall (if not all of 2018), Rockstar Games' first new game in five years is a sequel to their 2010 hit Red Dead Redemption—one of the best games released for the previous generation of Xbox and PlayStation. And, with publisher Take-Two claiming that Red Dead Redemption 2 will "redefine" the gaming industry, expectations couldn't possibly be any higher.
Another vast open-world western with a fully developed story and plenty of opportunities for exploring and wasting time away from the narrative, the new game is actually a prequel set 12 years before the prior one, centering on Arthur Morgan, a member of the "Van der Linde" gang to which Red Dead Redemption's John Marston once belonged. Marston and his family will also make an appearance in the new game, which features some of the same locations but also adds new ones to what amounts to a much larger map.
Gameplay looks similar to the previous game, but every aspect appears to have been further developed and polished. (Expect a deeper "honor system," for example, with far more potential for interactions with NPCs.) RDR2 will also feature an online multiplayer component (similar to GTA Online), though rumors of a battle royale mode have not been confirmed. There are also no plans for a PC or a Switch version—yet.
