Writer-director Joanna Hogg adds a coda to her very personal and critically acclaimed duet—The Souvenir and The Souvenir: Part II—with this ghost story starring Tilda Swinton in dual roles as Julie (originally played by Swinton’s daughter, Honor Swinton Byrne) and her mother Rosalind. Set in contemporary times, Julie (accompanied by Swinton’s dog Louie) takes her widowed mother to a former family home that is now a deserted hotel, hoping to make a breakthrough on a film about her mother. It’s a haunting look at the persistence of long buried secrets and at the bond between parent and child.
