The latest from writer-director Damien Chazelle (Whiplash, La La Land, First Man) is set in decadent 1920s Hollywood and stars Brad Pitt as the ultimate movie star of the time, Margot Robbie as a rising star, and Diego Calva as an outsider brought into their orbit. The supporting cast includes Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, Toby Maguire, Max Minghella as producer Irving Thalberg, and Jean Smart as a powerful Hollywood journalist. If early reactions are to be believed, Chazelle might have fallen prey the excess of the decadent era he’s trying to bring to life.
