Director Ramin Bahrani (The White Tiger, 99 Homes, Goodbye Solo) steps into feature documentary filmmaking for the first time with this portrait of Richard Davis, the inventor of the modern bulletproof vest. Titled after the once thriving company founded by Davis, the film confronts Davis’s fabrications (shooting himself 192 times to test his vest is not one of them) while revealing his complex humanity through interviews with ex-wives and business partners. Bahrani moves through Davis’s life chronologically, from his early career as a failing Detroit pizzeria owner to becoming a savvy marketing multi-millionaire and, ultimately, to a man starting over again in a life filled with second chances.
