This 2005 Oscar-nominated film follows the life of Irish-American boxer James J. Braddock (Russell Crowe) during the Great Depression. The Hollywood Reporter’s Michael Rechtshaffen believes that director Ron Howard crafts “a superbly acted, beautifully shot, highly engaging drama” that is easily one of Howard’s “best efforts.”
