The Best PlayStation Games of 2022
Which PS5 and PS4 games impressed professional reviewers the most during the past year? We rank the best-reviewed PlayStation titles released between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022 by Metascore. Games must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible for inclusion. If a game appears on both PlayStation platforms, only the version receiving the higher quantity of critic reviews (typically the PS5 version) is eligible for inclusion. (All scores listed here are from December 31, 2022.)
(#6) The second of four (!) ports of older games to crack our top 10, the retitled The Last of Us Part I brought Naughty Dog's groundbreaking 2013 post-apocalyptic action-adventure game The Last of Us to the PlayStation 5 for the first time in September. The original game was one of the highest-scoring releases in the history of the PS3, and while this remake—which makes some minor changes to gameplay in addition to improving the visuals—didn't score quite as highly, anyone new to the franchise and willing to overlook the high price will be met with what remains an excellent game. (And, in just a few weeks, HBO's TV adaptation will follow.)
“The Last of Us never needed fixing. Everything from combat to crafting has aged remarkably well. Still, it never hurts to polish perfection. And this beautifully enhanced edition works hard to ensure Naughty Dog’s masterpiece will remain my favourite video game for some time to come.” —Post Arcade
