The Best PlayStation Games of 2022
Which PS5 and PS4 games impressed professional reviewers the most during the past year? We rank the best-reviewed PlayStation titles released between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022 by Metascore. Games must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible for inclusion. If a game appears on both PlayStation platforms, only the version receiving the higher quantity of critic reviews (typically the PS5 version) is eligible for inclusion. (All scores listed here are from December 31, 2022.)
(#10) Arriving in February after a short delay, the sixth expansion for Bungie's 2017 multiplayer shooter is a callback to one of the first Destiny's expansions, The Taken King—the latter game's villain, Oryx, is the sister of the titular Witch Queen of the new game, Savathûn. The expansion includes a major new location, a new raid, and additional content, and will be followed by yet another expansion in February.
“The highest compliment I can give any game is when I have to force myself to put the controller down to put my thoughts in a review. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is that game. Somehow Bungie took a game that I play daily, for hours a week, and made me want to play it more. [...] The Witch Queen takes every aspect of Destiny and improves on it, and then some. While Destiny is always getting better, The Witch Queen is the best piece of Destiny content ever created.” —PlayStation Universe
