The Best PlayStation Games of 2022
Which PS5 and PS4 games impressed professional reviewers the most during the past year? We rank the best-reviewed PlayStation titles released between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022 by Metascore. Games must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible for inclusion. If a game appears on both PlayStation platforms, only the version receiving the higher quantity of critic reviews (typically the PS5 version) is eligible for inclusion. (All scores listed here are from December 31, 2022.)
Metacritic's #1 PlayStation Exclusive of 2022.
(#3) In 2022, neither the Switch nor the Xbox had an exclusive score in the 90s. But PlayStation did. Ragnarok is the first sequel to Sony's 2018 all-time-great God of War reboot, and it somehow managed to be just as good as its predecessor. In fact, many reviewers consider Ragnarok to be the superior game, even if gameplay is mostly the same (with a few tweaks, like a fully playable Atreus). Despite the rave reviews, Ragnarok will likely be the end of God of War's Norse mythology storyline, and any future installments will instead explore different territory.
“Balancing a heartfelt story with over-the-top excessive video game action, Ragnarök is completely self-aware. It improves upon the previous title in all the ways we could have hoped for and delivers a huge experience with stunning visuals, beautiful storytelling and buckets of fun. This is a must have for any God of War fan and an easy recommendation for anyone new to the series.” —Digital Spy
