The Best PlayStation Games of 2021
Which PS5 and PS4 games impressed professional reviewers the most during the past year? We rank the best-reviewed PlayStation titles released between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021 by Metascore. Games must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible for inclusion. If a game appears on both PlayStation platforms, only the version receiving the higher quantity of critic reviews (typically the PS5 version) is eligible for inclusion. (All scores listed here are from January 2, 2022.)
(#7) Released in March, the latest from A Way Out developer Hazelight Studios is another two-player-only action-adventure. While that previous game tasked you and your partner with breaking out of prison, the more emotional It Takes Two casts its two players as a bickering married couple who have been trapped inside the bodies of two of their daughter's handmade dolls. Cooperation is the key to passing a series of tests, reversing the spell, and reuniting with the young girl. Critics praised the game's inventive approach.
“It Takes Two is one of the best co-op games we've ever played. The creativity is splashing and the adventure is incredibly entertaining thanks to the mix of all kinds of elements, locations and situations. It plays wonderfully and the variation in environments does the game well as it provides a good surprise effect, and does so time and time again. The presentation is also sublime with razor-sharp graphics that are incredibly colorful and that is complemented by a wonderful soundtrack that connects seamlessly with everything.” —PlaySense
