The Best PlayStation Games of 2021
Which PS5 and PS4 games impressed professional reviewers the most during the past year? We rank the best-reviewed PlayStation titles released between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021 by Metascore. Games must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible for inclusion. If a game appears on both PlayStation platforms, only the version receiving the higher quantity of critic reviews (typically the PS5 version) is eligible for inclusion. (All scores listed here are from January 2, 2022.)
(#10) Sucker Punch's Sony-exclusive open-world samurai action-adventure came to the PS5 in 2021 after first debuting on the PS4 the year before. The new Director's Cut edition includes the base game and the previously released Legends expansion, and adds a second single-player expansion: Iki Island (also available separately), which adds a new story and missions and a large island setting to explore (similar in size to the base game's Izuhara). The PS5 version of Director's Cut also boasts a few new, exclusive features, including upgraded visuals, quicker load times, 3D audio, and haptic feedback.
“Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut on PS5 is the best way to play Sucker Punch's masterpiece, with a great new expansion and technological improvements that make this an instant classic.” —God Is a Geek
