Below are the highest-scoring computer games released between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016. Games are ranked by Metascore prior to rounding, and any titles with fewer than 7 reviews from professional critics are excluded.
Though it eventually turned into a winner, the previous iteration of Sid Meier's enduring 4X turn-based strategy game drew criticism at its launch thanks to a paucity of features. Not so for Civ 6, which includes nearly everything out of the gate that eventually came to Civ 5 through multiple expansions. It also shakes up the formula a bit by "unstacking" cities to make placement of improvements matter, which serves to create additional opportunities for strategizing.
