The Best PC Games of 2021
Which PC games impressed professional reviewers the most during the past year? We rank the best-reviewed titles released between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021 by Metascore. Games must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible for inclusion. (All scores listed here are from January 2, 2022.)
(#9) This enhanced version of the 2020 remake of 1997's Final Fantasy VII came to PC (as an Epic Games Store exclusive) at the end of 2021 following a PS5 port in June. Intergrade (theoretically) upgrades the action-RPG game's visuals even further than the 2020 version and adds a new expansion centering on a new playable character, Yuffie Kisaragi. While some players have been reporting graphics issues with the new PC port, reviewers have been willing to overlook those problems (though if you have a PS5, you'll want to pick that version over the PC release).
“Final Fantasy 7 Remake remains one of the finest JRPGs in recent memory, and its conversion to PC arguably enhances that reputation if you have the right hardware to make it shine. Despite shortcomings in its range of graphical settings and a lack of customisation options, this is a commendable port that runs well, looks even better, and offers patient players on the platform an adventure they’ve been waiting years for.” —TheGamer
