The 20 Best New TV Shows of 2018
Above are the highest-scoring first-year TV series debuting in the United States between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. Shows are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades from top professional critics on a 0-100 scale) prior to rounding, and any programs with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded. (Note that limited series, as well as TV movies and specials, will be ranked in a separate list arriving this weekend.)
It's not a network show; it's a social network show. The one piece of Facebook original content worth seeking out so far (according to reviewers), this half-hour drama series stars Elizabeth Olsen and as a woman dealing with the death of her husband. It's not a happy show—though it does have moments of humor—but it's good enough to land on numerous critic year-end top 10 lists. Janet McTeer also stars, and James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now) directs multiple episodes.
“Sorry for Your Loss is like a beautifully written sad song: You’re not always in the right mood to listen to it... but when you are, it can reach you in places that nothing else can.” —Dave Nemetz, TVLine
