The 20 Best New TV Shows of 2018
Above are the highest-scoring first-year TV series debuting in the United States between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. Shows are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades from top professional critics on a 0-100 scale) prior to rounding, and any programs with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded. (Note that limited series, as well as TV movies and specials, will be ranked in a separate list arriving this weekend.)
One of 2018's buzziest newcomers, BBC America's breezy, action-filled thriller Killing Eve finds Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge writing (but not starring) in an adaptation of the books by Luke Jennings about a cat-and-mouse game between a formerly desk-bound MI5 agent (an Emmy-nominated Sandra Oh, in her first regular role since leaving Grey's Anatomy) and a female assassin (a widely praised Jodie Comer, previously seen in The White Princess). The series will return for a second season in 2019.
“Killing Eve is unlike any other spy drama you’ve seen and that’s why it’s so excellent. It does away with the conventions of the genre and makes you believe it was designed for women all along. It’s a quiet revolution.” —Ira Madison III, The Daily Beast
