The 20 Best New TV Shows of 2018
Above are the highest-scoring first-year TV series debuting in the United States between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018. Shows are ranked by Metascore (an average of grades from top professional critics on a 0-100 scale) prior to rounding, and any programs with fewer than 7 reviews are excluded. (Note that limited series, as well as TV movies and specials, will be ranked in a separate list arriving this weekend.)
Comedy Central's edgy and often surreal workplace comedy is set within a soulless multinational corporation named Hampton Deville. It stars Matt Ingebretson, Jake Weisman, Anne Dudek, Adam Lustick, Aparna Nancherla, and Lance Reddick (who appears to be following Andre Braugher's career path from playing a Baltimore cop to starring in a sitcom), while guests include Natasha Lyonne, Jon Daly, Baron Vaughn, Kate Walsh, Aimee Mann, and Rory Scovel. The series returns for its sophomore season on January 15.
“It’s a cliché in TV criticism to say that the real protagonist is the setting, but Corporate flips that idea on its ear: Here, the setting is the antagonist, and every day you can stay alive within it is another day when you might lose yourself completely. I realize that maybe doesn’t sound very funny, but trust me, at a certain point, you laugh because your numbing corporate job has sapped you of the ability to cry.” —Todd VanDerWerff, Vox
