30 Best Movie Remakes (and Reboots) of the Past 30 Years
Hollywood may be in love with remakes, but critics don't usually share those warm feelings. Nevertheless, revisiting an old property can sometimes prove fruitful, and not just commercially. In the gallery above, you'll find the best-reviewed remakes and franchise reboots of the past three decades, ranked by Metascore. (Note that a movie must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible.)
Original: Obvious Child (2009), directed by Gillian Robespierre
Gillian Robespierre's well-received 2014 debut feature is an adaptation of her own 23-minute short film which streamed on Vimeo five years earlier. Both versions star comedian Jenny Slate as a woman who finds out that she is pregnant after a one-night stand and decides to have an abortion, and both versions take a humorous but honest and thoughtful approach to the subject matter in ways that, according to critics, similar films like Juno and Knocked Up don't.
