30 Best Movie Remakes (and Reboots) of the Past 30 Years
Hollywood may be in love with remakes, but critics don't usually share those warm feelings. Nevertheless, revisiting an old property can sometimes prove fruitful, and not just commercially. In the gallery above, you'll find the best-reviewed remakes and franchise reboots of the past three decades, ranked by Metascore. (Note that a movie must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible.)
Original: Ardiente paciencia (1983), directed by Antonio Skármeta
Also known as The Postman, Il Postino is one of just 10 films not in the English language to be nominated for a best picture Oscar. A fictionalized story about real-life poet Pablo Neruda based on Antonio Skármeta's 1983 film Burning Patience (and his 1985 novelization of the film) that changes the setting from 1970's Chile to 1950's Italy, the highly acclaimed 1994 feature received five Academy Award nominations in total, including two for star/co-writer Massimo Troisi, who died just 12 hours after filming was complete while awaiting a heart transplant.
